GPS Tools for Geographers is a web-based project at Oklahoma State University, administered  through the Department of Geography and funded by a grant from the National Science Foundation.  Launched in 2003, this website is intended to be a source of information for individuals and educators interested in developing or improving GPS field exercises and lecture materials. The goal is to assist individuals in gaining proficiency in GPS theory, use, and applications.  It is also useful in equipping organizations and individuals desiring to achieve competency in GPS/GIS integration.

Increasing use of GPS technology within agriculture, transportation, natural resource management, and other fields highlights the importance of learning about and applying this technology. This website provides everything an instructor needs to learn and teach about GPS technology.  We have developed four teaching modules that can be downloaded and used to teach students a variety of   applications and skills related to GPS.  These modules are easily modified to meet the needs of instructors in a variety of disciplines.

In the Overview section of the website you will find a comprehensive overview of GPS technology.  This section is designed to provide background information about the history, development and operation of GPS.  The Data Resource section provides links to websites where a variety of data can be accessed to use with GPS and GIS.
